Qwirkle Board Game Review

The Qwirkle Board Game from Mindware is a simple and equally fun game that is suitable for all ages. This board game can be enjoyed by both kids and adults and that is one of the many reasons why it is ideal for the whole family. One of its main advantages is that it provides adequate training for the kids when it comes to pattern building and recognition. As a result, the game develops the basic strategic and logical skill of the players.

Product Description

The whole game play is based on patterns and colors which many of the board games share in common. The game consists of 108 wooden tiles or blocks that come in six different shapes and in six colors. The wooden tiles are indeed beautiful and would make a nice necklace! The tiles are nice to touch and has a very soft feel.

How to play Qwirkle

Quirkle is a board game that requires well thought out strategy and planned maneuvers from the players. It can also be as simple as matching shapes and colors. Using the tiles, the players try and score the maximum points by building lines that contains similar colors or shapes.

Qwirkle is strategic because it mainly consists of forming shapes or patterns. Shapes or patterns can be produced by lining up the tiles in a line and which share a common single trait, i.e., a diamond. That is to say, if there are four similar diamonds in a straight line and you add a fifth diamond to it, and you will be granted 5 points.

Prior to commencement of the game, ensure that you have a pad and pen at your side. This is to keep a tab on the scores of each player during their turn. Every player commences the game by drawing or taking six tiles from the pouch and begin to line it up in front of him or her. The player who has the most number of tiles that share the same pattern or color begins first. Whenever a player has less than six tiles in front of them, they will then have to draw another tile from the pouch to restock the number of tiles that they have used. It is also to be noted that if there is a line of similar colors, i.e., a blue square in the line, then you would not be allowed to put another blue square in the same line.

The Qwirkle Board Game can be played either anti-clockwise or clockwise, depending on the rules that you set. It’s fun to exchange seats with your partners occasionally so that you are exposed to their strategies. Any player who completes a row containing six tiles will get a bonus of six points in addition to the six points that they will get for the six tiles. It does make the game more fun as more strategy can come into play to ensure that your partners do not get that additional bonus.

Qwirkle has been compared to Set, Scrabble and many other board games. As you approach the end, the chances of drawing a particular tile increase. Hence, players need to start planning for which tiles that they will likely select. This adds an exciting dynamics to the game as it reaches its conclusion.

Consumer Reviews

Nearly all consumers agree that this is a fun, family-game. Everyone who has tried it seems to like it a lot as it isn't easy to play and very easy to learn. They feel that if you have already played Set and Scrabble, you will definitely find Qwirkle an easy game to play. The wooden tile pieces feel like they are quality made and they look very pretty all laid out while playing. It is nice to have a pouch to pass the tiles around in rather than having to spend a lot of time turning the pieces face down in the bone pile before each game. Children younger than six years are too young for this game, but 10 year olds love them. Although there is definitely a bit of good fortune needed when it comes to drawing the tiles, it also takes skill and strategy to decide where to place each tile to benefit you the most in the long fun. In a nutshell, this game is money well-spent. Most consumers believe that it will help their young ones to develop logical thinking skills and also enhance their strategic thinking. This board game can also be enjoyed by both teens and adults that's why it is perfect for the whole family.

Price Reviews

Qwirkle is priced at around $19 at Amazon. Price wise, it is a worthwhile investment as it is far less expensive and more portable than other similar board games.

Safety Reviews

This game contains small pieces and is not suitable for children under 3 years of age as the small parts are a choking hazard.

My thoughts on the Qwirkle Board Game

I was initially intrigued by the simplicity of the game and thought that I would be bored within minutes. Finally, I ended up playing Qwirkle for over 2 hours and did not find it boring at all. As a matter of fact, the patterns and colors appealed to me and it kept reminding me of Scrabble, except that you play using colors and patterns instead of alphabets.

One thing that bothered me is that the number of players at one time is limited to 4, unless of course, you purchase more than one box.

To summarize, Qwirkle isn't a fast paced action filled game as players will have to strategize to earn the most amount of points. Qwirkle is not a great game, but it is a good one. All in all, it is a fun and well-made game that both the average gamer and the aficionado can enjoy.

Use coupons to save money when shopping online

This is a paid review.....

Buying stuff online is so easy, the hardest part is paying for it..

Once you start making some moolah online, then the next word is online coupons and the word after that is curbing, which never ceases, and crosses to the final stage.. stopping, ie., stopping shopping..

I do my share as well and usually go to the retailers site and make a purchase now and then spending most of my time in Amazon.com, for things that they can be delivered to this region and in particularly for books and CDs.

Actually there are ways to save while shopping online. There are online coupons available, which gives offers like free delivery, discounts, free gifts etc. These coupons are very useful especially if you are spending a lot. Now, every time you are online, check to find what coupons they have to offer before you make a purchase. It may seem like a little here and there, but it definitely adds up in the end.

Check them out today and find out what type of deals they have for you!

While there won’t always be online coupons available for your favorite store, it’s worth taking a moment to check for a discount or a coupon code for up to 50% off your order. In short, it is always wise to be an informed online shopper!

Once in a while, it is also kinda nice scamming the system. Although it is on the legal side, it extends a bit of thrill and fun. Suppose a site is having a huge discount, you can save sooo much by dropping at that site, invest less than five bucks and get $20 to $25 worth of food at your local Mexican restaurant. The trick is that you have to pay attention to the "rules" mentioned.

There are online coupons for lots and lots of different stores like target, best buy, amazon, overstock.com, kohl's, joann.com, home depot, gap, dell, and best buy, target, the container store...

The list is endless…..

Sponsored Reviews

SponsoredReviews.com is a new paid to blog service just like PayPerPost and ReviewMe.

The tagline says, “Bloggers earn cash, Advertisers build buzz”, and that’s pretty much it in a nutshell. This site acts as a middleman for advertisers and bloggers, and allows bloggers to bid for reviews, or be personally selected by an advertiser.

Paid to blog services are some 'get rich quick' schemes. The signup process was a breeze and blogs are generally accepted fast. That is pretty fast when compared to other services but opportunities come rather slow…

But for someone deciding to launch their career on paid blogging, try something else that would bring in paid reviews far more easily. This is not to discourage you, but these guys are good, and are for the biggy bloggers. However, this is only a personal viewpoint from a blogger using those services.

This is mainly because you have to place a bid….. the sponsors have to review it….. and they would notify you whether it has been accepted or not….. This could take anywhere between 2 to 20 days.

To expand this a bit more……Once you set your price, you select a category, input your blog title, and a description. All of this will be viewable by bloggers and advertisers. Advertisers will use this information to determine if they want to work with your site, and bloggers can use it to see who their competition is in a certain price range. Add keywords, and submit - your blog is now active in the system.

Once your blog is active, you want to find advertisers to work with. Clicking on the “find advertisers” tab will do just that. But if you set your blog review price to $20, and if you want a $20 plus per review, forget that thought...

If you like something that you’d like to write about, then place a bid…..but accept the bid amount that is mentioned…. As like in every bid, it is the lowest amount the advertiser is willing to pay. Place a bid in line with your blog price and the maximum price

Advertisers also have the option of searching the list of blogs and contacting you with a price.

Please also note that when you submit your blog for review, the SponsoredReviews system pulls stats on that blog from several sources, like Technorati and Alexa. Your link popularity is calculated, and you’re giving a total ranking of anywhere from 1 to 5 and you’re given a suggested price based on your rankings

But always note that you only get 65% of your bid price, that is to say, if you input $10, you’re actually only making $6.50 per sponsored review.

Lastly, all blog posts must be 200 words long, and all content must be original…blah...blah…and the usual
You also need a 3:1 ratio of non paid to paid content, which is quite tough and you have 7 days to complete your review

Now if you have three different blogs listed with three different prices, you can bid multiple prices for the same assignment. The only problem is, some advertisers take a long time to review offers.

But make note that if you don’t complete reviews you’ve accepted, your account can be suspended.

Also, a disclosure is required in each post, i.e., ‘This is a paid review’, or something similar

As a closing line, I like the direct contact between the blogger and the advertiser. A review is written only after both parties are happy with the agreement.

So there are no surprises.

Lastly, for those bloggers, wanting to increase vistors to their blogs would benefit from this list of Blog Directories. Do check'em out...

Summer Programs from Score Learning Centers

I have heard and read a lot about the Summer Program from Score Learning centers.

They can help children ages 4 to 14 throughout the summer in a tutoring environment to help out with your child’s academic progress.

It appears for nearly 15 years, SCORE! Educational Centers have been providing kids with a fun way to catch up, keep up, and get ahead in their studies and Summer Programs. As part of the Kaplan family, SCORE! works with children in grades pre-K through 10th grade to help them achieve their goals and reach their academic potential in math, reading, spelling and writing.

Score Summer Programs include personal academic coaching, positive reinforcement, and a customized curriculum that adapts to each child's pace and learning needs. If you have a son or daughter they could really benefit from something like this. And if you enroll by June 30th you can save $100.

This is really a great way to help your child catch up or even get a little ahead in their learning for many different subjects. And it is a mixture of fun learning with academics so your child will not be bored out of their mind during the summer months.

Score Summer Programs

Research shows that students lose an average of one month of learning over the summer break. Mainly because, kids like to spend their summers out playing with their friends or hanging in front of the TV.

Definitely, summers are essential for kids to relax and have some fun, but wouldn't it be nice if they could convert spend some of that time into a quality one, brushing up their learning skills?

Summer Camps help you do just that!

Score offers great opportunities for children of most ages… Help your child retain and gain knowledge in an engaging environment with SCORE Summer Camp Program. All SCORE! programs combine fun learning with academic progress and should certainly help your child start the school year with confidence.

Score Learning centers helps children ages 4 to 14 make significant academic progress in an innovative tutoring environment. and can benefit students and their parents. For families seeking the ultimate summer learning experience, the SCORE! MORE program features unlimited sessions and results in serious academic progress. The SCORE 30 program works best for families on the go with 30 one-hour sessions to be used at your convenience, either intensively or throughout the summer.

If your child needs help with a specific subject, the Summer Skill Builders help programs focus on particular skills and subjects and are available throughout the summer. For example, there Writing Summer Camp can help your child improve and practice writing skills in just four weeks, and the Study Skills Camp will help your child transition into a new academic year with the skills he or she needs to build confidence and achieve success at school.

They can also teach your early learner to read this summer with a Learn to Read program, which is perfect for students entering grades Pre-K through 2 and the program offers Math and Reading-focused programs, along with a variety of other Skill Builders that can be customized to fit your needs and schedule.

In short, this opportunity is mainly targeted parents who have plans in sending their children to attend Score Summer Camps.

Bombay.... drop by and say hi !

Formerly called Bombay, Mumbai India, is known for its chaotic street scenes.

Bombay (now properly called Mumbai) is a city of great contrast. One minute you can be surrounded by poverty and the next minute you can be in a cozy restaurant enjoying great food and wine. About 60% of the population lives in the slums. Most other people live comfortably in large apartments, and they typically have drivers and servants (such as a cook). Meals are usually really cheap or fairly expensive. And most visitors of the city are said to either love or hate it.

Mumbai is also the glamour of Bollywood cinema so if possible it would be nice to try and experience Bollywood (and hopefully be extras in a Bollywood movie)…would be fun.

There are shopping malls full of designer labels, cricket on the Oval Maidan, promenading families eating bhelpuri or having the famous Bombay Burger or the traditional masala chai teas and the masala dosais on the beach at Chowpatty, red double-decker buses queuing in grinding traffic jams and the infamous cages of the red-light district…..

It's a city with vibrant streetlife, India's best nightlife, and a wealth of bazaars. Outdoor bazaars top the list of attractions for the bargains for example shopping in Fort/ Colaba neighborhoods… you'll find very inexpensive scarves, necklaces, t-shirts, leather sandals and anything touristy. You can do some bargaining [which is fun], but at a certain point it doesn't feel worth it to make a fuss over what's only worth $1 to a traveler, even though if they are technically trying to rip you off by their standards….so have fun and just give in gradually…..

More sightseeing options are the Gandhi Museum, in the leader's former home, and the cave temples of Elephanta Island. For tranquility, Mumbai has many religious sites, lakes and parks. Popular waterfront destinations are Marine Drive, where visitors go to watch the sun set over the Arabian Sea, and the carnival-like Juhu Beach.

And for those inclined towards the media. Mumbai also enjoys an array of media in print and on the radio. English speakers are spoiled for choice as the major national papers have Mumbai bureaux and there are various English-language local papers and magazines.

November through March is very good. It is peak season, so make sure all your bookings are done in advance. Prices are higher at this time, of course.

SPY SWEEPER IS THE MOST AWARD-WINNING ANTISPYWARE SOFTWARE

For those of you who have had problem with spyware and viruses on the net would understand the need for a good anti-spyware. While we take various precautions to protect our homes and cars from unauthorised access, the same can not always be said about our computer systems. It is no longer enough to rely on installing antivirus software and thinking the job was done.

The purpose of Spyware is to gather information that could prove useful and financially benefit third parties. Spyware can infiltrate your system during online activity or concealed within other items of software

Not only you have to reboot the whole system but also find a good anti-spyware tool so as to not let them pay a visit again. Besides, it takes a lot of time to fix the problem of viruses. You have to delete some of them manually if you find them of course!

Offering to help deal with this infiltration of your computer system is Webroot's Spy Sweeper, one of the most award-winning antispyware software These awards include the ones from PC Magazine, Download.com and PC World.

In one line........

SPY SWEEPER IS THE MOST AWARD-WINNING ANTISPYWARE SOFTWARE

It is said that Spy Sweeper has the most advanced spyware detection and let you browse where you want and when you want. While the actual software application may not have been updated, it is entirely possible that Webroot will have added new signatures to its list of Spyware definitions.

Adaware works pretty well - extremely well since it's free - but there are some objects that it can't delete because they are in use, even doing a safe mode start-up. SpyBot is also good, but not good enough to get rid of some of the viruses on your system. WinPatrol, also free has been being doing a good job of monitoring the various soft startup bellies, but ........

Spy Sweeper doesn’t cost that much if you are in need of a good antispyware software. The product is easy to use in that you can set it up and almost forget about it as it carries out its designated task. Updates are carried out seamlessly and, apart from messages asking for permission whether to implement changes or not, intrusion is kept to a minimum. You will need to be running Windows 2000/XP with a 300MHz processor, 15MB of hard disk space and 256MB of RAM. Pricing, including a year of updates, is in the region of $29.95.

The Vonage Forum And VoIP

If you’re looking for a good source of information for VoIP, that’s voice over IP (Internet Protocol), then I recommend you check out http://www.vonage-forum.com which is a very popular independent support site for the service Vonage.

Vonage is one of the most popular VoIP solutions and this is a great resource if you want to stay up to date on news, are a first time user, looking to buy, or have a specific question. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. VOIP is the ability to transmit voice over the Internet and to either a receiving computer or telephone. VoIP works by Packet Switching Network. Standard landline telephones use the Circuit Switching Network.

Most people today prefer VoIP to Analog phones. Traditional or Analog phones are losing the battle against VoIP when it comes to cost effectiveness, standards, quality, and ease of use. Many people are choosing VoIP over Analog because of the many benefits that it offers. The main difference between Packet Switching and Circuit Switching, is that Packet Switching uses (data) or Packets and sends them over the Internet while Circuit Switching is accomplished by using electrical circuits to make a telephone connection. Circuit Switching is like the old switchboard operators, wearing headsets frantically trying to connect the right caller with the receiver. Packet Switching is used to transfer data all across the Internet- it is used for E-mail.

The forum is pretty popular and they have special offers on their site if you’re looking to signup. It has probably has more users registered than other general VoIP forums since this one is dedicated to Vonage VoIP related stuffs.

Vonage forum is a great place to visit for more information on how to make full use of your VoIP services or for any help and advise on trouble shooting. They also provide the latest news and reviews which you might be interested to know.

How To Write A Paid Review.

Paid reviews can be quiet controversial due to the hype they may create.

But if you would like to learn how to do it well and with great degree of professionalism do read
Andy Beard’s article, ..............a great example of paid review.

Elsewhere on his blog he offers few but very important points to consider before accepting a paid review:

  • Will your opinion be affected by the fact that you will be paid for writing a review?
  • Are you unbiased toward the product or service you are about to review?
  • If you are offering a criticism is it a 'constructive criticism'

  • While any one can come up with the points above, it is not so easy to put them into practice. If you go through the reviews that Andy wrote in the past, you can agree that he knows what he is talking about. To write this kind of review one needs to put in hours of research plus the time for compiling the review.
